TiBo baby massage
Baby massage implies direct, attentive touch of your baby. Parents from all over the world massage their infants. By doing this on a regular basis they intensify the contact with their child, give the baby more self confidence, stimulate the motorial learning and metabolism and provide a solid environment for their child to grow up in.
After years of experience with Shantala-baby massage (originated from India) TiBo baby massage was developed out of a need to provide a more tailored form of baby massage suitable for babies growing up in the fast-moving societies of the West. Because every baby’s mood differs from day to day, every TiBo massage is different, reflecting the baby’s needs at that specific moment.
The techniques used when performing TiBo baby massage find their origin in the Eastern as well as the Scandinavian baby massage traditions. TiBo has also developed specific complementary techniques which have developed from years of experience with and research into over-stimulated, premature and sick children.
However, TiBo baby massage distinguishes itself most by concentrating on the following basic principle: awareness. By being aware of your own feelings and your own way of finding inner-peace you are able to offer this to your own baby.
Using active rest as a starting point you are able to observe and act in a more intuitive and balanced way: both you and your baby are in a much better position to pick up and send out signals which can be used to satisfy the baby’s need at that specific moment.
This is called the ‘Active Rest Learning Method’.
When used in practice ‘The Active Rest Learning Method’ helps the baby to relax before, during and after the massage ensuring that the basic principle of awareness creating inner-peace remains throughout the session.
The parent does not ventilate his/her own stress but can see and feel the infant as he really is – the contact is deep and intense. The parent recognises and respects the baby’s boundaries and can anticipate on the baby’s needs. By doing so, the massage concentrates on that part of the baby’s body which is at rest and does not make the baby fatigued. The massage is smooth and is carried out in attentive rest. The baby is never over-stimulated and the massage allows him to experience this safe adventure by becoming aware of his body and total acceptance of his own being.
For coaching purposes the ‘Active Rest Learning Method’ is also useful: the instructor’s or consultant’s goal is: complete relaxation and cohesion in his/her instructions ensuring total tuning in on the parent and child.
TiBo baby massage is offered as group- and as individual courses and consultations. TiBo baby massage is suitable for all babies. During the first week after the baby is born and during the first couple of weeks, individual sessions for the first-born are available; from 6 weeks onwards parents can participate in a group course.
Because TiBo baby massage reflects the baby’s needs and is performed in a professional way, this method of massage is perfectly suitable for babies with problems: babies who cry a lot, babies who have experienced a difficult birth or hospital treatment, who find it difficult to interact, over-stretch, show a preferential sleeping posture, throw up/ have reflux and who suffer from asthma or eczema.
TiBo baby massage can also be beneficial for young parents who find it difficult to find a new balance in their lives and for parents who have a sick or premature baby or who have an adopted or foster child.
